چکیده

serovar isolated from a canal in Louisiana in 1978 revealed it to be identical to that of V. cholerae 01 isolated in 1905 from a pilgrim at the El Tor quarantine station. The two strains are associated with sharply contrasting habitats. Ranges of variation of 5 to 15% in procaryotic 5S rRNA sequences between species are typical; variation within species may be 2% or greater. Because the 5S rRNA sequences were identical, it is concluded that they have a common phylogenic origin.

A quantitative analysis of temporal turnover in aquatic species assemblages across ecosystems.

Recent meta-analyses have shown that beta diversity through space is jointly driven by species traits, geographical gradients, and ecosystem properties. Spatial variation is, however, only one aspect of beta diversity. The other component is variation in species assemblages through time, that is, temporal turnover. We examined the decrease of assemblage similarity in time in aquatic ecosystems ...

Wheat and barley seed system in Syria: How diverse are wheat and barley varieties and landraces from farmer’s fields?

"> The present study described the diversity of wheat and barley varieties andlandraces available in farmer’s fields in Syria using different indicators. Analysisof spatial and temporal diversity and coefficient of parentage along withmeasurements of agronomic and morphological traits were employed to explain thediversity of wheat and barley varieties or landraces grown by farmers in Syria.Farm...

Phylogenetic analysis of complete VP1 sequences of echoviruses 11 and 6: high genetic diversity and circulation of genotypes with a wide geographical and temporal range.

Echovirus 6 (E6) and echovirus 11 (E11) are common causes of meningitis and other human diseases; they are among the most frequently isolated enteroviruses worldwide. In the present work we have studied genetic variability over the entire VP1 gene of selected isolates representing a wide geographical and temporal range. Fifty new sequences from North Africa were included, together with previous...

Assessment of genetic diversity of sesame accessions collected from different ecological regions using sequence-related amplified polymorphism markers

Sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers were used to assess the genetic diversity among a collection of 52 sesame accessions representing different geographical environments, including eight Saudi landraces. A combination of seventeen primers generated a high number of alleles (365) with 100% polymorphism. The polymorphic information content (PIC) and primer discrimination power ...

Parasite species richness in carnivores: effects of host body mass, latitude, geographical range and population density

Aim Comparative studies have revealed strong links between ecological factors and the number of parasite species harboured by different hosts, but studies of different taxonomic host groups have produced inconsistent results. As a step towards understanding the general patterns of parasite species richness, we present results from a new comprehensive data base of over 7000 host–parasite combina...
